Mossman / South Wind / 1977 / Natural / Guitar

This is an amazing top range hand made guitar by Stuart Mossman, rare to see, especially over here in the UK - This is a  STUNNING original 1977 Mossman South Wind 6 string flat top acoustic it is a superb sounding guitar and what’s more, as far as I can tell, it is 100% original and totally crack free!

Rare to see the most desirable model - you just do not see these amazing South Winds in the UK very often.

It has been privatly owned for many years by a Mossman collector and enthuiast, kept in excellent condition and we are lucky enough to have 4 of the Mossman range from his private collection for sale. Just have a look at our other items.

It really is a beautiful sounding classic Mossman and is really easy to play with a good action all across the board. It is made of very fine materials including a solid spruce top and some really nice Indian rosewood with the beautiful tree of life inlays. There are just a few, small dings here and there plus a small amout of minor lacquer checking but that really is about it. I have photographed the main one which is just on the top by the side binding.

I am sure the new owner will not be dissapointed with this and if you are looking for a really sweet sounding and open 6 string tha is easy to play as well as a vintage item that appreciates then you have probably just found it. Here is what the owner has to say:

"These Fine Guitars are what Doc Watson, Emmy Lou Harris, Johhny Cash, Dan Crary, Norman Blake, Hank Snow, Merle Travis, Johnny Cash, John Denver, Albert Lee, Cat Stevens, John Jorgensen, most of the Caradine brothers considered to be worthy of being owned, picked and prized. (Mossman never entered into any sponsorship deals with Artists). A truly hand built American made Acoustic Guitar, an instrument of such quality and finesse that each luthier that had a hand in making them ring out and sing; signed every guitar individually, including the award winning (Frets Luthier of the year 1980) renowned owner, founder and builder of Mossman Guitars, Stuart L.Mossman. In the light of a century and a half of Acoustic Guiltar Builders by illustrious makers such as Martin, Mauer/Larson Bros./Washburn......Stuart Mossman was inspired to set out and recreate that Golden Era of Luthiery using the best Tone Woods available and setting exceptionally high standards of craftsmanship; indeed he called his Flagship Dreadnought model 'Golden Era'. This particular Guitar that's for sale was named 'South Wind' and is an excellent and very well looked after 38 year old instrument with no structural issues and in exceptionally good condition.Made with similar high quality materials as the 'Golden Era',with attractively figured premium grade East Indian Rosewood back and sides. The top has flitch-matched quarter sawn Sitka Spruce for consistent grain and better sound properties. The braces in all Mossman Guitars are Spruce, delicately shaved and tapered to reduce mass and enhance sound quality through greater top movement. Around the hand grooved sides and sound hole feature small links of matching Abalone shell which are carefully selected and pieced together around the guitar. Another craftsman has carved the low profile Mahogany neck and carefully placed the adjustable steel truss rod down the centre; enabling an adjustment inside the body for either player preference or responding to natural changes in the wood. Finally a traditional Mother of Pearl Vine and flower inlay is inlayed along the entire ebony fingerboard. It takes quite some time to complete a South Wind Guitar, many times longer than it takes to make most guitars, a Masterpiece in the making.Small wonder then that when an award winning Documentary film was made about Stuart Mossman it was entitled Stuart Mossman:A modern Stradavari."
