Fender / Precision / 1968 / Sunburst / Bass For Sale
A vibey, late-'60s Fender Precision BAss with tons of character, this example features a nicely faded finish and all the right transitional details. It's a fantastic example with great tone, feel, and an awesome look!
This is one has the rare "popsicle" tuners, a quirky and short-lived spec seen only in that year. It's a late transition logo model with pearl dot inlays, and a rosewood fingerboard with original frets and nut still in place. The poly finish has faded and aged nicely on the front, the back still retaining stronger red tones in the sunburst. The tortoiseshell guard is the correct plastic type, and under the hood you'll find a set of grey-bottom pickups ink dated 1st August '68. Neck date in June '68. The pots have been changed, but everything else checks out as stock.
It's got that great balance of age and honesty - buckle rash to the back, plenty of edge wear and dings throughout, all consistent with a bass that's been played and loved, not stashed away. It's got the look and feel of a proper working instrument without losing any of the vibe that makes these late-'60s basses so appealing.
Tonally, it delivers in spades. There's plenty of low-end heft, with a dynamic, responsive attack and a natural compression that makes it sit effortlessly in a mix. Whether it's studio or live use, it's easy to see why vintage P-basses like this are considered the go to.
Complete with its original "no-tail" logo Fender case and original hang tag, this is a great-playing, great-sounding piece of Fender history with loads of vibe and all the right charcter. A solid, soulful '60s P-Bass that's ready to go to work.
