1963 Fender Precision Bass
Original Blonde Finish with Ash Body
Now in stock.
We are pleased to offer a 1963 Fender Precision Bass finished in its original Blonde finish over an ash body, a relatively uncommon configuration from the early 1960s.
Although Fender had transitioned to sunburst finishes and alder bodies as the standard specification by 1956, the Blonde finish continued to be offered using ash bodies, allowing the natural wood grain to remain visible beneath the translucent finish.
This example dates from 1963 and features the early round-laminate rosewood fingerboard, introduced after the slab-board era ended in mid-1962. While popular among players, Blonde Precision Basses from this period were produced in comparatively small numbers, making them less frequently encountered today.
Cosmetically, the bass shows light wear consistent with the thin lacquer finishes used during the period, but overall remains in excellent vintage condition.
The instrument appears to be completely original, retaining all of its original components.
Tonally, the combination of ash body and early round-laminate fingerboard produces a powerful and articulate sound, with strong low-end response, rich midrange presence, and a clear attack typical of Blonde Precision Basses from this era.
