We are pleased to offer a 1953 Fender Telecaster “Blackguard”, presented in excellent clean condition.

The early 1950s Telecasters, commonly referred to as Blackguards because of their black phenolic pickguards, represent some of the most iconic electric guitars ever produced. By 1953, roughly three years after production began, the Telecaster had evolved into a highly refined instrument while still retaining the raw character that made these early models legendary.

Blackguard Telecasters from this period have been favored by many influential players, including Roy Buchanan and Keith Richards, and are known for their powerful and dynamic tone.

Although many guitars from this era show heavy wear due to the extremely thin lacquer finishes Fender used at the time, this example remains in exceptionally clean condition for its age.

The frets and nut have been replaced, ensuring excellent playability.

The wiring has been converted to modern Telecaster wiring, allowing for more practical use in contemporary playing situations. The original capacitor is included, allowing the circuit to be returned to its original configuration if desired.

Aside from these changes, the instrument retains its original components.

Tonally, this Telecaster delivers the unmistakable Blackguard sound: powerful, dynamic, and rich in harmonic complexity. Instruments from this era remain some of the most inspiring vintage electric guitars ever produced.
