1959 Fender Precision Bass
Early Slab Rosewood Fingerboard
Now in stock.
We are pleased to offer a 1959 Fender Precision Bass featuring the early slab rosewood fingerboard, introduced during one of Fender’s most important transitional periods.
The Precision Bass underwent a major redesign in late 1957, introducing the now-classic split-coil pickup and contoured body shape. In late 1959, Fender introduced another significant change by replacing the one-piece maple neck with a slab-laminated rosewood fingerboard, a feature that would remain until mid-1962.
This example represents one of the earliest Precision Basses fitted with the rosewood slab fingerboard, making it a particularly desirable piece from the dawn of this new era.
The bass shows honest playwear consistent with decades of use, including arm wear on the top of the body and buckle wear on the back. These marks reflect a life of regular playing and add to the authentic character of the instrument.
The frets and nut have been replaced, ensuring excellent playability. Aside from these maintenance items, the bass appears to retain its original components, including the pickup.
Tonally, this instrument delivers the powerful, authoritative sound that made the early Precision Bass the foundation of modern electric bass playing. The slab-board examples from this period are particularly admired for their warm low end and strong midrange presence.
