A 1955 Fender Stratocaster “One-Piece Ash Body” has just arrived.
Just arrived! Newcomer!

Introduced in 1954, the Stratocaster was released as Fender’s second model following the Telecaster and Esquire.

It was designed to address various user complaints about the Telecaster and featured a body shape that fit more comfortably against the player. Innovations included the contoured body, the revolutionary three-pickup configuration, the use of a pickguard to simplify assembly, and the entirely new concept of the synchronized tremolo unit. These features made the Stratocaster a model worthy of being called the origin of the modern electric guitar, a design that could only have been conceived by the inventor Leo Fender.

However, development and early production did not proceed smoothly at first. By around September 1954, the specifications had stabilized and the Stratocaster began to be produced as a regular production model. The instruments made earlier in 1954 are often considered prototype-like examples.

The guitar we have received this time is a late-1955 Stratocaster, produced after the specifications had fully stabilized.

The body is made from a one-piece ash body, and the pickups have slightly higher windings than the earliest examples. This gives the instrument the characteristic tone of the early ash-body, maple-neck Stratocaster era.

Cosmetically, as a vintage instrument more than 65 years old, the guitar shows some light wear and weather checking. However, it remains in overall excellent condition.

The frets and nut have been replaced, and the guitar offers excellent playability.

Due to age-related deterioration, the original Bakelite pickup covers and control knobs have been replaced with accurate reproduction parts. If desired, the shop can also help source original Bakelite parts, and recommends keeping the originals safely stored in the case. Apart from these items, the guitar retains its original components.

The sound could certainly be described as the classic “aged” Stratocaster tone, but it still delivers plenty of power. The combination of smooth low-mid response and high frequencies rich in harmonic overtones creates a superb tone that can only be found in an original vintage Stratocaster from this period.
