Fender / Stratocaster / 1964 / Lake Placid Blue / Guitar For Sale
Here’s something a bit special. Probably a once in a lifetime opportunity to purchase what must be one of the cleanest, left handed pre-CBS custom colour Strats out there. This one has a cool story connected to it too so read on…
This is an all original, early ‘64 Strat with all the 1963 specs such as the desirable, slightly chunkier 1963 neck profile, green guard, clay dots and spaghetti logo. It comes with the original blonde case it was sold in, bridge cover, trem arm, original lead, strap, instruction booklet with matching serial number, 1963/4 catalogue, polishing cloth envelope and leaflet plus a yellow cloth.
It is all original, totally original and you will not hear this stated very often but even including the original VC Squire strings. It is a true, un-circulated, one owner guitar, an electrician who purchased it in 1964, spent a couple of years learning how to play it then when the top E string broke he gave up and decided in 1967 to put the guitar in his closet until a few days ago.
It is near mint and totally unfaded - just have a look at the pictures in our gallery page and you will see exactly what we mean. There is a spot of buckle rash on the back plus some minor dings here and there and a bit of oxidisation on some of the metal parts but aside from that, it is really clean and because it has spent most of its life in a dark closet, totally unfaded. There is not one area of greening on it and unlike most Lake Placid Blues we have seen, it still retains its original and beautiful true blue hue.
It has been played during it’s entire (and short) playing life with the bridge cover on so there is some oxidisation on the cover but nothing on the saddles. In fact these are probably the finest condition original pre-CBS saddles we have seen. There are some faint clearcoat pick marks on the top by the pickguard but we cannot photograph them and you can only see them at the right light angle.
This guitar has never ever been taken apart. Are we going to take it apart? No, we will leave this decision for the next owner to make so afraid no internal pics are available right now. We WILL take it apart and photograph if required, but this will only be after full payment is made and will be at the new owners risk. However, we are happy to provide a 100% money back guarantee that everything is original inside this guitar and if the new owner decides to take it apart and they find anything wrong, we will give them their money back without question.
We have checked to confirm it works and yes, all three pickups sound awesome and really strong, as you would expect. As you can imagine after 55 years It is in dire need of some new strings and a setup but we are again not going to do this unless the new owner wants us to. We have checked the neck, it is totally straight with no warps, so once a fresh set of strings is on it will setup fine and it will play really well.
There is hardly any fret wear but the frets have oxidised and turned almost green but again, we will remove this oxidation and restore them (free of charge) to their original sheen if the new owner desires and we have checked to make sure this can be removed and cleaned. Basically, we are selling the guitar as it was last used in late 1966 and as it was bought way back in 1964, but we will do whatever the new owner instructs us to do to get it in a good, playable condition.
So I guess you are probably thinking, that’s quite a lot of money for an old guitar with green frets and one busted string and yes you would be correct. However a guitar like this will probably only come around once in a lifetime and life can be a bit too short to miss opportunities like this…
If you think you can find one cheaper then like any decent store we are prepared to price match and if you find the same spec product cheaper anywhere within a 12,500 mile radius we match or beat that price.
