Gibson / ES-345 / 1965 / Sunburst / Guitar

Here's the thing, and quite an interesting thing too. A wide (42mm) nut Gibson ES-345 from 1965 or if you go by serial number 1964 or 1965, Gibson ES-345 TDSV which is a bargain, player price because of well... we're not sure!

Here's what I can tell you - New tuners, no extra holes drilled, original sunburst finish, black lights perfectly. Was probably a trapeze tail model converted to stop tail a long time ago but this conversion is so good (ie perfectly in the right place) at first glance it looks like a factory stop tail.

It has PAT number, sticker pickups, ABR pat number gold bridge with what could be graphite saddles, very high quality lightweight repro tailpiece that looks just right. It has been converted to mono and the Varitone gubbings stripped out however a newer choke has been installed to restore Varitone functionality (it is still mono).

No breaks, no neck repairs or headstock breaks but here is the weird thing. Inside there seems to be some white stuff fairly uniformly spread on the back and underneath it there are what appears to be a couple of extra small pieces of wood. I have shown this to 3 vintage guitar experts and the luthier I use and no-one has a clue what has gone on there and no one has seen anything like it before...!

If it is some kind of repair, it has all been done inside (like keyhole surgery) without taking the back, front or sides off as there is absolutely no sign of any holes, splits, cracks or anything else on the top, back or sides. Weird...

Anyhow, getting back to the nitty gritty, it is a superb player, sounds real nice and used to belong to a busy session player in London many years ago and has been used on many recordings at the likes of Abby Rd etc.

It comes with original case and pretty much all the original hardware. Because of the issues I am selling it AS-IS, no returns on this one.

If you are looking for a good player that won't break the bank, you have just found it.
