Gibson / L-4 / 1929 / Sunburst / Guitar For Sale
A lovely player-grade 1929 Gibson L-4. This is the round soundhole version seen between 1928 until c. 1935 after the transition to f-holes. Other features include a non-cutaway body with carved Spruce top, Maple back and sides and an unbound peghead sporting the era-defining, "The Gibson" logo.
The carved Spruce top and Maple back/sides are single-bound as is the neck. The fingerboard has been replaced at some point in its life and split parallelogram fingerboard inlays - a feature of post-1947 models - replace the dot markers used in this period. The soundhole ring is 7-ply black-and-white. It's had a neck reset so playability is great. Tunders are repro Klusons that function well and the guitar has been refinished.
The sound is typically dry, punchy, articulate and loud - perfect for swing, early jazz, or fingerstyle.
Thsi isn't a museum piece, but it's a proper working vintage guitar with a great feel and classic tone - ideal for someone who wants the charm and sonic qualiities of a nearly century-old Gibson without collector-grade pricing or fragility. It plays well across the neck, sounds great acoustically, and stands as a testament to Gibson's craftsmanship during one of its most iconic eras.
If you're after a vintage archtop that blends character, history, and playability, this 1929 L-4 is a fantastic find.
