Gibson / Les Paul Custom / 1970 / Black / Guitar

Very nice and early 1970 Gibson Les Paul Custom with some late 1969 features at a reasonable price with it's original case. Here's the run down -

Tuners changed to Schallers, knobs changed to '59 style black repros, 2x pots changed in the late 70's, the other two are original and dated the 10th week of 1970. Original PAT Number pickups but rings and ring mounting screws have been changed. Thats about it I think...

Everything else seems original including the purple lined hard case and the factory original low profile frets that actually are in good shape and still pretty playable.

There are areas of touch up on the back where you can see the buckle rash and on the front near the switch and on the sides - both of these areas you can only see under blacklight. The lacquer is checked all over, especially on the top and a lacquer crack has opened on the top under the switch (see picture).

It has a 1970 serial number of 907795 but does have some of the features seen in late '69 such as the open 'b' and 'o' on the logo, no 'MADE IN USA' on the back of the headstock, a small 'mosquito bump' volute and a nice deep dish, carved top. Finally for whatever reason, it is stamped as a '2'

It's not often you see these LP Customs made in the first few weeks of 1970. They are very cool and are the ones to get just before the 'Made in USA' stamp came in along with the full size volute etc. After that, the 'Norlin period' well and truly kicked in...

Weight of 4.3Kg and medium neck profile.

Plays well of course, and both pickups and nice, strong and evenly balanced. No breaks or repair and no neck issues makes this superb Les Paul that will more than likely appreciate in value...
