We are pleased to offer a 1966 Fender Custom Telecaster finished in its original Firemist Gold Metallic custom color, featuring the distinctive white bound body that defines the Custom Telecaster model.

Introduced in 1959, the Custom Telecaster was Fender’s first upscale variation of the classic Telecaster. Along with the introduction of rosewood fingerboards, Fender created the Custom model to offer a more refined aesthetic, borrowing elements associated with higher-end instruments of the time. These included a sunburst-style finish and body binding, giving the Telecaster a more luxurious appearance while retaining its traditional electronics and construction.

The Custom Telecaster remained in production until early 1972, when Fender redesigned the model into the very different Telecaster Custom, which featured a humbucking pickup in the neck position.

This example dates from 1966 and is finished in the striking Firemist Gold Metallic custom color. While Telecasters were offered in custom colors during this era, they were ordered far less frequently than on models such as the Stratocaster or Jazzmaster. As a result, custom-color Custom Telecasters are particularly uncommon, and Firemist Gold examples are rarely encountered.

The guitar was produced during the final years of full nitrocellulose lacquer finishing at Fender, before the transition toward thicker polyester finishes later in the decade.

Overall, the instrument presents as a beautiful and highly collectible example, combining a rare custom color with one of Fender’s most elegant vintage models.
