1965 Fender Jazz Bass – Original Sonic Blue Finish

This 1965 Fender Jazz Bass features its original Sonic Blue custom color finish paired with a dot marker neck. Custom colors from the mid-1960s are already uncommon, and Sonic Blue remains one of the most desirable finishes offered by Fender during the period.

This example dates from 1965, the final year before Fender introduced binding and block inlays on the Jazz Bass neck. It therefore retains the classic dot marker fingerboard design used since the model’s introduction in 1960.

Cosmetically, the bass shows some natural weather checking and playwear consistent with its age, but overall it remains in very good condition.

The neck is straight, fitted with a beautiful Jacaranda (Brazilian rosewood) fingerboard. The frets and nut have been replaced, allowing for excellent playability. Aside from these maintenance items, the bass appears to remain original with no other modifications.

Sonically, this instrument delivers a fantastic vintage Jazz Bass tone. It combines a full midrange character reminiscent of early-’60s slab board models with the clear high-end response typical of mid-’60s Fender instruments.

The Sonic Blue custom color is rarely seen on 1960s Fender basses, making this example especially attractive to collectors.
