1962 Fender Jazzmaster – Original Lake Placid Blue, Slab Fingerboard

We are pleased to offer an early 1962 Fender Jazzmaster finished in its original Lake Placid Blue custom color, featuring the desirable slab rosewood fingerboard.

Custom color Fender instruments from the slab-board era (1959–mid 1962) are extremely rare across all models. While Lake Placid Blue became more commonly ordered later in the 1960s, examples from the early slab-neck period are seldom encountered, making this a particularly special instrument.

This Jazzmaster dates from early 1962, during the final months of slab fingerboard production before Fender transitioned to the round-laminate fingerboard later that year.

Another interesting detail is the headstock finish. Early custom color Jazzmasters often retained a standard natural headstock, whereas later examples typically featured matching headstocks finished in the body color.

Cosmetically, the guitar shows minor signs of age and light wear, but overall remains in excellent vintage condition.

The instrument appears to be completely original, and remarkably still includes its original hang tag. It also comes with the original brown Tolex Fender hard case.

Tonally, this guitar delivers the full, rich character associated with slab-board Jazzmasters, combining warmth, clarity, and the slightly edgy response that makes early Jazzmasters so distinctive.
