A 1968 Fender Precision Bass “Candy Apple Red with Factory Jazz Bass Neck” has just arrived.
A rare Precision Bass has arrived. This instrument appears to have been produced by factory order, using a Jazz Bass neck. It was ordered to combine the Precision Bass sound with the playability of a slimmer Jazz Bass neck.
The model code at the heel indicates a Jazz Bass neck, but the headstock decal is an original transition-logo Precision Bass decal from this period.
The body finish is described as a full nitrocellulose lacquer Candy Apple Red finish. There is some minor wear and weather checking consistent with age, but overall it is described as being in excellent condition. The neck also has a nitrocellulose lacquer finish, and since it is a Jazz Bass neck from this period, it features binding and block position markers.
The parts are original except for the nut and a few screws, which have been replaced.
This Precision Bass is described as having the same look as the Candy Apple Red body with Jazz Bass neck combination associated with Donald “Duck” Dunn (Stax Records session player; bassist for Booker T. & the MG’s and the Blues Brothers Band).
With its slim neck making it easy to play, and delivering an original ’60s Precision sound, this is the kind of vintage Precision many players have been looking for.
