A 1956 Fender Stratocaster has just arrived: “Mint Condition with White Bakelite Parts.”

The Stratocaster was released in 1954 as Fender’s second model after the Telecaster/Esquire. It was designed to address player feedback on the Telecaster, featuring a contoured body for improved comfort, a then-revolutionary three-pickup layout, a pickguard that simplified assembly, and a synchronized tremolo unit based on a completely new concept. It’s often considered the origin of the modern electric guitar and would not have been possible without Leo Fender.

The instrument we’re featuring here is a 1956 Stratocaster.

In 1956, Fender changed the body wood from ash to alder for various reasons. This is an early example from that transition, and it features white bakelite parts (including the pickup covers), similar to 1955 models.

Considering this is a vintage instrument more than 65 years old, it remains in remarkably clean, mint condition. There is only minimal yellowing and very light wear to the clear finish on the neck.

It is completely original and straight. Even the plastic parts, including the bakelite pieces that often deteriorate with age, are in beautiful, bright white condition.

The sound is the familiar 1950s Stratocaster tone with a one-piece maple neck. It delivers plenty of output, with rich high-frequency harmonics that aren’t harsh, and smooth low-mids. It’s a sound that can truly only be experienced with an original vintage guitar from this era.

Includes the original tweed-covered hardshell case.
