1963/1964 Fender Stratocaster
Original Sonic Blue Custom Color
Now in stock.
We are pleased to offer a 1963/1964 Fender Stratocaster finished in its original Sonic Blue custom color, a highly desirable finish from the early 1960s.
Fender introduced its custom color program in 1960, offering finishes based on contemporary automotive colors. Although available by special order, relatively few instruments were produced in custom colors during the early years, making examples like this increasingly rare on the vintage market.
This Stratocaster is finished in Sonic Blue, one of Fender’s most recognizable custom colors. The color was derived from a DuPont automotive finish used on 1950s Cadillac models, and remains one of the most sought-after blue finishes among vintage Fender collectors.
The neck date and serial number indicate late 1963 production, while the potentiometer date is early 1964, which is typical for instruments assembled during the transition between years.
Cosmetically, the guitar shows light yellowing of the clear coat, minor buckle wear, and natural finish checking, all consistent with age and use. Overall, the instrument remains in excellent vintage condition.
The frets and nut have been replaced to ensure excellent playability. A few bridge saddle height screws have also been replaced, while the rest of the guitar appears to retain its original components.
Tonally, the guitar delivers the classic early-1960s Stratocaster sound, combining warmth and fullness with the lively response associated with the early round-laminate rosewood fingerboards.
The guitar includes its original white Tolex Fender hard case.
